Rangers get major Old Firm boost as Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki ruled out for two weeks for Celtic

Rangers have been given a major boost ahead of the upcoming Old Firm derby after Brendan Rodgers revealed Celtic will be without two key players for two months.

The two Glasgow giants are set to meet in the first derby of the season at Ibrox on September 3, with Michael Beale desperate to get a win over the fierce rivals and show they’re really ready to compete this season.

After a slow start following defeat on the opening day, Rangers currently sit three points behind Celtic in the league table but the Hoops have struggled and were eliminated from the Scottish League Cup in their first cup game of the campaign.

And now manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that centre-back pairing Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki will be out of action for the next two months each with hamstring injuries.

After allowing Carl Starfelt to leave they are now short on options at the back, and with Rangers finally starting to find some attacking fluidity they could really punish Celtic at Ibrox.

Beale overhauled the squad this summer knowing that the target was to catch Celtic as soon as possible and even overtake them this season to get the title back, with second place not a good enough outcome for many.

Rangers

Both clubs have seen top players leave, but Rangers seem to be in better shape as it stands considering that side also lost their manager against their will too.

Carter-Vickers has been one of the best in the country for years so his absence will be huge for Celtic, and if Rangers can’t take advantage of that with a full stadium and all the motivation early in the season then it will say a lot about where Beale and his ideas will take us.

We’ve got a huge slice of luck ahead of this game, and now we have to take full advantage of it.
