Jack Butland speaks out to Rangers fans after Champions League thriller v PSV

Jack Butland has sent a message to Rangers fans following their Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven at Ibrox.

Taking to Instagram (23 August), the starting goalkeeper on Tuesday night’s game (22 August) shared his admiration and support for the 49,097-strong home crowd following their thrilling 2-2 draw.

The post features Butland with his fellow Rangers teammates in front of the tifo-holding Gers fans in the Broomloan Stand ahead of kick-off.

Butland’s caption said: “Some home.”

Committed

Despite letting in two goals on the night, Butland has a solid performance against PSV in their fourth-round clash at Ibrox.

With three decent saves and three high claims [SofaScore] against PSV, he protected his box and ensured reliability for his defence. There was very little he could do about Ibrahim Sangare’s PSV opener and Rangers’ defence should have done better to stop Luuk de Jong’s bullet-header equaliser.

Nevertheless, Rangers put on a mostly-promising display in a game where they needed at least a draw, and with the goal tally edging up and the performances improving gradually, the Ibrox faithful’s optimism may be returning.

Butland, as seen through his Instagram story, is clearly thankful for the support and happy at the club. He has been a fairly consistent performer so far this season and has often been let down by the defence in front of him.

He is a source of stability as Michael Beale navigates the bedding of his new attacking force and will need perhaps an even stronger performance in the second leg at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven on Wednesday (30 August) if Rangers want the £40million bonus for reaching the group stages.
