Ally McCoist moots Rangers ‘financial benefit’ live on talkSPORT amid £40m news
Ally McCoist believes Rangers will benefit more from qualifying for the Champions League than dropping into the Europa League.
That was the opposite belief of one fan of the club, who live on talkSPORT suggested that the Gers are better off away from Europe’s elite competition.
Rangers drew 2-2 with PSV in their play-off first leg clash at Ibrox on Tuesday (22 August), with a £40million group stage jackpot awaiting the winner of the tie [Daily Record, 22 August].

“What you don’t mention is the financial benefit that Rangers will get by winning the tie against PSV,” McCoist told a Rangers fan live on talkSPORT.
“That financial benefit of the money of qualifying for the Champions League, surely will help the club moving forward.”

Huge incentive
Rangers have plenty of incentives to reach the group stage of the Champions League, with the financial side of things perhaps sitting top of the list for those behind the scenes at the Ibrox club.
The money would do Rangers the world of good moving forward, and would keep everyone at board level very happy after some turbulent times at Ibrox.
On the pitch, meanwhile, qualifying for Europe’s major club competition should be all that the players and indeed Michael Beale are thinking about right now.
Many new arrivals will have signed this summer with Champions League football firmly on their minds, with not every player getting to play at such a high level throughout their careers.
The Gers have battled it out with plenty of giants of European football from their Champions League and European Cup outings over the years, and the current squad should be desperate to be a part of that this season.
In other Rangers news, new Championship competition has emerged for one Gers player linked with an Ibrox exit this summer.
