Josh Windass makes Alfredo Morelos admission after Rangers exit

Josh Windass believes Rangers will miss Alfredo Morelos’ goals this season as they continue to adapt to life without the Colombian.

Morelos’ rather eventful six-year stay at Ibrox came to an end earlier this summer when his contract expired.

Ex-Rangers man Windass, who played alongside Morelos for a season, says it is understandable the 27-year-old’s exit has left a void to be filled.

Speaking to Sky Bet, via the Daily Record [22 August], Windass said: “He scored a lot of goals and got a lot of red cards.

“He was there quite a while now and was the club’s top European scorer. Any team will miss a goal scorer who has moved on.

“Hopefully they’ve replaced him with the recruitment, but it’ll be interesting to see where Alfredo ends up.”

Bargain buy

Morelos played a key role under the likes of Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but he fell out of favour under Michael Beale.

Ultimately, concerns over the 11-cap Colombia international’s attitude and fitness meant Beale did not fight to keep him in Glasgow.

Somewhat tellingly, Morelos has yet to find a new club, despite knowing since May he would not be extending his stay at Rangers.

That said, Morelos will be well remembered among the Light Blues faithful for his goalscoring feats, having netted 124 times in 269 matches.

Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, Danilo and Cyriel Dessers were all brought in during a summer of change, but the jury is out at this stage.

Beale could do with one of those staking a claim to be a regular up top and matching the scoring figures Morelos showed across his six campaigns.

As far as transfer bargains go, though, they do not get much better than Morelos, who cost the Gers just £1million when joining in 2017.
