Ianis Hagi ‘career at Rangers is over’ as transfer request is made
Ianis Hagi’s “career at Rangers is over” and his exit from the club is already “quite advanced” according to Stevie Clifford.
The Four Lads Had a Dream man said on Rangers Review’s YouTube channel on Tuesday (22 August) that whether it is a loan or a permanent exit is currently unclear but the Romanian is on his way from Ibrox after he “asked to move” for more first-team football, and the reason he was omitted from the squad to face PSV was because the club expect him to be gone soon.
Michael Beale had indicated that a move was possible having excluding him from selection for the Champions League play-off, after Hagi had expressed his frustration at a lack of game time over the weekend.
Clifford said (6m 20s): “I’ve actually found out quite a wee bit more about this. This is quite advanced, Ianis Hagi’s career at Rangers is over. He has asked to move.
“That has been basically the position in the last few weeks. Michael Beale mentioned it yesterday the reason he was omitted from the European squad was Rangers don’t expect him to be here that much longer.”
The news comes after a report that Glen Kamara’s Gers exit is also at an “advanced stage” as he closes in on a £5.5million move to Leeds United.
Done
The signs of the Finland midfielder and the manager both expressing publicly that the current situation wasn’t satisfactory suggested this was very much likely.
But it appears that they were comfortable doing so in the knowledge that behind the scenes matters were already a lot further along the line than was publicly known yet.
Hagi, 24, has only played 373 minutes of football for Rangers since January 2022 [Transfermarkt] thanks to a major knee injury that kept him out for over a year, and Beale’s reluctance to use him since.

So if he isn’t set to play a major role and is clearly frustrated by that then it makes sense that a move would be on the cards.
There is the outside possibility that the club hope a loan away could rejuvenate him but the general indications are that he isn’t part of the manager’s plans so a permanent deal would make more sense at this stage of his career.
And if Hagi and Kamara, both very good players on their day but well down the pecking order at Ibrox, were to both leave in the coming days for a pair of solid fees it would give Beale the opportunity to finish off his extensive transfer business.
In other Rangers news, an attacking transfer target is back in the frame for the Gers as the deadline closes in.
