Rangers transfer update: Luis Palma back in the frame as Michael Beale targets late-window ‘priorities’

Interest from Rangers “is still there” late in the window in signing Luis Palma with winger one of the remaining transfer “priorities” for Michael Beale, according to The 4th Official.

The online outlet reported via Patreon Friday (18 August) that multiple sources had now given “confirmation” that the Honduran was still in the Light Blues’ sights, with the club having chased him for “a long time”.

Rangers have been linked since at least April amid widespread interest in 23-year-old Aris man, but the focus died down as the Gers boss landed other attacking targets.

With Fashion Sakala having made a late exit to Saudi Arabia and with Scott Wright having almost departed for Turkey a wide man is back on the agenda, while Beale admitted last week the squad was short of a replacement for Ryan Kent [Glasgow Times, 11 August].

Clock ticking

Beale is certainly leaving it late if he is hoping to add Palma to his playing staff before the deadline, having been in the frame for months now.

He has kicked off the new season in excellent form, scoring twice and assisting twice more in just four appearances in Greece.

He totalled 13 goals and eight assists in all competitions last season and had been linked to a €5million [£4.26m] move at the beginning of the summer [Transfer Geek, 28 April].

Rangers

Sakala’s exit late in the day has robbed the Rangers squad of some speed and agility, and the Zambian leaving may have heightened the focus back on Palma.

The cash brought in on that move, which isn’t thought to have been in Beale’s plans, as well as the windfall from overcoming Servette in Europe, could therefore be turned straight around for a late push to sign the wide man from the Greek Super League.

The new-look Gers attack of Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima has come under scrutiny in the opening weeks of the season, and with Alex Lowry also out on loan there appears to be a space for another creative option, so Palma may end up being just that.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has issued a “very surprised” verdict as the Light Blues look for another key late move.
