Rangers are not understood to be keen on securing the services of Bristol City defender Zak Vyner despite prior reports, according to the Fourth Official.

Bristol Live reported on Saturday (13 August) that the Light Blues were weighing up a move for the 26-year-old centre-back.

However, he's not understood to be on the 55-time SPFL champions' radar as they're looking to bring in a left-footed option and Vyner is a rightie.

Via Patreon on 14 August, T4O wrote, "I had been categorically told before Beale's press conference (yesterday in fact) that Rangers are not interested in either Vyner or Harry Souttar.

"The profile for centre half that Rangers are looking for currently is a left-footed CB. That has not changed."

Better options?

The Bristol Live article mentioned above has seen Bristol boss Nigel Pearson label the 26-year-old as an "Excellent" defender.

It's evident to anyone who's watched Rangers for the last 12 months that they desperately need that kind of centre-back through the door.

However, if they're not keen on Vyner, there must be other left-footed options that Beale or the hierarchy will be having in mind.

Ben Davies plays that role but he's clearly not it for Rangers and an upgrade is needed on him to partner Connor Goldson.

Jonathan Panzo has been linked with a move to Ibrox in the past and it remains to be seen if they rekindle an interest in him.

He can also play at left-back and in central midfield so this could be a decent option if their priority targets are not available.
