Rangers transfer news as Brentford close in on Connor Young move

Rangers youngster Connor Young is closing in on a move to Premier League side Brentford, despite arriving at Ibrox just last year, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper shared in their print edition [15 August, pg 41] that the centre forward, who signed a deal at Ibrox to join from Hibernian last year, has been on Brentford’s radar for some time.

Young spent the latter half of last season on loan in the Scottish League Two with East Fife, where he scored one goal in eight appearances, having managed seven in 26 games for Rangers B in the Lowland League.

Can the club get a fee for him?

It remains to be seen the money being offered by Brentford to bring the youngster to West London, but it seems unlikely to be significant given his lack of senior football experience. Rangers will still likely break even on the undisclosed fee they paid Hibs to bring him to Ibrox.

Brentford, much like Rangers, operate with a B team rather than U21s, which is a rarity in England with most clubs opting to fill out their academy ranks and produce from within.

Given his age and current experience, it would be fair to suggest Young will join up with their B team, or head out on loan to aid his development.

Brentford are renowned for their low-fee, high-return policy when it comes to transfer deals, which could suggest they know something we don’t when it comes to the Rangers prospect, but it seems unlikely he would play any direct role at the club after his arrival.
