Chris Sutton shares ‘absolutely massive’ Rangers v Servette Champions League prediction live on BBC
Chris Sutton believes Rangers will overcome Servette in their Champions League third round second leg qualifying clash.
The Gers take on the Swiss outfit on Tuesday (15 August), having won the first leg 1-0 at Ibrox last Wednesday (9 August) thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers.
And Sutton has predicted the Scottish club to make it through to the play-off round, where they are likely to face a “tough test” against PSV.
“I fancy Rangers to go through against Servette,” Sutton said live on The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live Sport (14 August). “They actually should have beaten them far more than 2-1 at Ibrox.
“If Rangers do go through, it looks like they are going to play PSV, who got the better of Sturm Graz 4-1 in the first leg, and that will be a real test.
“And of course, the financial rewards for getting through to the Champions League are absolutely massive for Rangers.”
Crucial night
It looks set to be a crucial night for the entire Rangers season, with Beale needing to progress to the next stage to ease some of the pressure on his shoulders.
The Gers made a very poor start to their new Scottish Premiership campaign with a 1-0 loss at Kilmarnock.
They did, however, bounce back with the win against Servette, which was followed by a much-needed 4-0 league victory against Livingston.
That win at Ibrox should provide the players with plenty of confidence going into the huge clash away from home to Servette.
But even if the Gers do come away victorious, a very tricky match against Dutch giants PSV is likely to await them. That will definitely not be an easy encounter, even if Rangers did overcome PSV at the same stage last season.
Both clubs should win their third round qualifying ties, which would set up a tasty two-legged clash to get into the Champions League group stages.
