BBC Scotland pundit blown away by ‘massive’ Jack Butland moment in Rangers clash v Servette
BBC Scotland pundit James McFadden was blown away by Jack Butland’s save in the first half of Rangers’ Champions League qualification clash against Servette.
In an early scare for Rangers, Servette forward Timothe Cognat was one-on-one with Butland, but the new signing produced an excellent save to keep the game level.
While Michael Beale’s side trail 1-0 at halftime, Butland’s seventh-minute strong diving save could prove to be significant for the Gers as they aim to battle for the winning goal in the second half.
Live on BBC Scotland (15 August 7:38pm), McFadden said: “It’s a huge save. Huge save. It should be a goal for Servette, they should be 1-0 up in this game and then Jack Butland comes up with a massive save.”
Needed heroics
While Rangers fans will be very disappointed with their side’s performance so far, they can rely on the Englishman to provide solidity at the back.

While Butland did concede Dereck Kutesa’s 22nd-minute beauty, he can’t be blamed for this as his defence were disorganised and weak.
Changes need to be made by Beale if he wants to win this tie, and perhaps the defence should be targeted first following their poor display.
Butland’s moment of magic in the first half could prove really important. If Rangers can get a single goal they will qualify for the next round, which makes Butland’s heroics all the more significant.
Beale will hope not to rely on Butland as much in the second half and will expect more from his forwards.
