Jose Cifuentes named in Chris Sutton Team of the Week as new Rangers signing shines

Chris Sutton has named Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes in his team of the week following his performance against Livingston on Saturday (12 August).

On page 41 of the Daily Record’s print edition on 14 August, the Sky Sports pundit said the new Gers signing “shone” as his side secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Livi at Ibrox.

It was the first time the 24-year-old Ecuadorian started for the club since making his move to Glasgow from MLS side Los Angeles FC on 4 August.

High praise

This is high praise for Cifuentes from Sutton as it’s a known fact that the former Celtic striker likes to take a swipe at Rangers at every given opportunity.

The fact that he has put the midfielder in his team of the week, which unsurprisingly includes three Hoops players, proves that it was a top performance from the new Rangers recruit on his first start for the club.

The fans will have been delighted to see him show so much quality in their first real chance to see him in the flesh after he played just 13 minutes in the Champions League third-round qualifier against Servette FC.

Rangers

It’s not a massive surprise to see the Ecuadorian do well, though, after he arrived with a glowing reputation following a number of successive years with LA FC, where he helped them lift the MLS title in 2022.

He will now be looking to start in the second leg against Servette as he aims to nail down a regular spot in the Gers midfield this season.

In other Rangers news, the club have been urged to sign a winger that would provide something different to Michael Beale’s squad.
