BBC pundit awestruck by ‘beautiful’ Sportscene footage of Kieran Dowell in Rangers win
Neil McCann was awestruck by a “beautiful” Rangers attacking move in their 4-0 victory over Livingston on Saturday (12 August).
The Sportscene pundit and the former Gers winger claimed that the move which led to Kieran Dowell’s 90th-minute goal showed what the team was capable of even during the closing moments of a well-won game.
McCann noted that Beale has brought in quality assets this summer and just needs to find the “right way” of playing to maximise the squad’s potential.

Speaking on Sportscene (12 August), McCann said: “This is where Mick Beale will have difficulty in terms of selection. He’s still moulding the team, still trying to find relationships and combination play.
“Beautiful touch by Dowell and he’s on his bike. Matondo is eating up the ground but look at Danilo. He’s just mortaring to get between the sticks. If that’s a cross there, he’s got a tap-in.
“It’s a wonderful finish by Kieran Dowell in a really quite brilliant move. But there’s so many things that I think this team could be capable of because I believe Beale’s bought talented players, it’s just finding the right blend and the right way of playing.”
Trust the process
While Rangers’ opening day defeat put a lot of fear into fans’ hearts, the much more convincing win on Saturday will have eased a lot of worries.
The club brought in a significant amount of new faces this summer, including Danilo, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima, which lead many to speculate how well and quickly they would gel.
However, with three new signings getting on the scoresheet against Livingstone, many will be fully behind Beale once again after the rocky start.
McCann’s insight is correct here, as he notes that the Gers have brought in quality players who all improve the side. However, he suggests that with all the new players Beale may struggle to find his best starting lineup amid his attempts to “mould” the side into a title-challenging outfit.
The performance against Livingston was a significant improvement on their opening day clash against Kilmarnock where Beale’s side suffered a surprise 1-0 loss, but it is understandable that the squad did not click immediately considering the huge changes at the club.
If Rangers can continue to create these “beautiful” attacking moves, they look well set to have a good season.
In other Rangers news, an injury expert has claimed that a first-teamer is close to a return to the starting lineup.
