Kris Boyd stunned by unbelievable Rangers moment v Livingston on Sky Sports

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd was left stunned as Cyriel Dessers squandered an “unbelievable opportunity” in Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash with Livingston.

The Gers ran out 4-0 winners at Ibrox on Saturday [12 August] to put last weekend’s opening game defeat to Kilmarnock behind them, as Sam Lammers, Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Kieran Dowell all found the net – three of those goals coming in the final 12 minutes.

However, summer signing Dessers remains without a goal across his first two league starts for the club after wasting a big chance against Livingston.

“It was an unbelievable opportunity for Dessers,” said Boyd [12 August, Sky Sports, 16:19].

“Great header back from Danilo to the edge of the six-yard box, he just fires it towards goal, but [Ayo] Obileye threw himself at it and managed to block it.”

Another blank

It has been a summer of much change at Ibrox, with Dessers one of a number of new faces through the door as Michael Beale aims to end Celtic’s dominance at the top table of Scottish football.

The Nigeria international – whose arrival was greeted with the message “worth the wait” by Rangers on social media – has found the net in the Belgian, Dutch and Italian top flights, most recently scoring six times in 26 Serie A outings for Cremonese last season [Soccerway].

However, while Dessers did get on the scoresheet with his goal in the midweek Champions League qualifying win over Servette, he has yet to score across 133 minutes of Scottish Premiership action [WhoScored].

Rangers

Indeed, three of the Gers’ four goals against Livingston arrived after the Nigerian was substituted off, with replacement Sima needing just 13 minutes to open his account for the club.

Given the nature of the victory, Beale will not be overly concerned just yet, but Dessers could do with breaking his league duck sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, Manchester United are reportedly one of three clubs “on the trail” of Rangers keeper Robby McCrorie.
