Rangers transfer news: Manchester United lead chase of ‘unsettled’ Robby McCrorie, seven-figure fee wanted

Manchester United are one of three clubs “on the trail” of Rangers keeper Robby McCrorie ahead of a possible Ibrox exit, according to Mail Plus.

The newspaper reported via their website on Friday (11 August) that the English giants are joined by Hull City and Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa in battling for the 25-year-old who is “unsettled” at Rangers and “eager to start afresh away from Ibrox”.

The Light Blues reportedly want as much as £1million to sell McCrorie, with his shot at the starting position lost to new arrival Jack Butland.

Part of the reason United are in the race is “ironically” because Butland vacated their back-up keeper spot to leave for Glasgow after his loan there from Crystal Palace last season, with Andre Onana having replaced David de Gea as the starter.

Wanted

McCrorie finally got a run in the first team at the end of the previous campaign and did a solid job, but just as the door had opened to him to be number one as Allan McGregor retired it then closed again with Butland’s arrival.

Although both Hull and Rakow Czestochowa could likely offer him a starting role he may be convinced by the glamour of heading to Old Trafford.

And it may require Michael Beale to head back into the transfer market once again to find a replacement if McCrorie is signed, although seven-figures for the back-up keeper would be a decent fee to do it with.

Exits from Ibrox have become the name of the game in the past fortnight after a summer which has seen nine new arrivals.

And with McCrorie clearly not content with stepping up from third-choice to second he could be about to join the likes of Fashion Sakala in leaving before the window shuts.

If he is set on going it would probably be the right outcome for all involved in he does secure a move to one of the clubs chasing him, especially if Rangers get good money back, so the final few weeks of the month will be crucial now.

In other Rangers news, an official club partner has provided an update on yet another potential first-team exit of a possible starter.
