Michael Beale responds to rumours linking Rangers with move for Harry Souttar

Rangers boss Michael Beale has responded to rumours linking the club with a move for Leicester City defender Harry Souttar.

talkSPORT journalist Geoff Peters tweeted on 9 August that the Gers were interested in taking the 24-year-old on loan after he hasn’t played for the Foxes in their opening two matches of the season.

But speaking to the Daily Record after Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Servette FC on Wednesday evening (9 August), Beale dismissed the rumours linking the club with the Australian international as “lazy”.

“There might be a bit of lazy stuff around that because his brother (John Souttar) plays for us and he follows our club,” he said. “If there is any news on that then you will be the first to know.”

Unlikely

It seems as though a move for Souttar currently seems unlikely judging by Beale’s comments after the game against Servette.

Who knows whether that is just a tactic to try and dampen the rumours, but it does seem as though the centre-back is probably available after he hasn’t played in Leicester’s opening two games despite being fit.

Perhaps his brother could be a decent bargaining chip in persuading him to make the move to Ibrox on loan, even though the pair would be competing for a place in the side as they play in the same position.

Rangers

Beale is seemingly on the lookout for another defender after Leon King was struck down with a nasty injury and Leon Balogun came in to provide some cover.

But Souttar, who was born in Scotland but chose to represent Australia, would add more quality at the back after he signed for the Foxes from Stoke City for £15million in January and featured 12 times in the Premier League last season.
