James Bisgrove outlines timeline for director of football decision at Rangers
Rangers are considering whether or not to appoint a brand new director of football or continue with their current structure, according to CEO James Bisgrove.
Since the departure of sporting director Ross Wilson in April, manager Michael Beale, chairman John Bennett and chief scout John Park have worked closely alongside Bisgrove on the club’s recruitment side.
They have brought in nine players this summer and the Ibrox board are now weighing up their next move in terms of their technical team, with a decision not expected until “early September”.

“That team has been really focused on the finite amount of time we have had to deliver the window. Once we get through that, we will catch our breath and start looking at some of the other decisions in terms of club appointments,” Bisgrove said, as reported by the Daily Record (6 August).
“It is a possibility (continuing with their current structure). We will meet as a board in early September, just before the Celtic game, and we will discuss that as a potential scenario, aligned to some of the candidates that we have met.”
Working
Few fans could have complaints with how the recruitment and transfer business has been handled at Ibrox this summer with the Gers bringing in nine new players from across the globe, including some exciting talents.
It is clear that chiefs at the club have been working hard to provide Beale with all the tools that he needs to compete with Celtic during the upcoming campaign, and the pressure will now be on the manager to deliver.

A new director of football could be useful to help spread out responsibility, but sometimes it can backfire if the right person is not hired and Rangers will need to make sure whoever they appoint is able to get on with Beale and the rest of the board while sharing their vision.
Either way, a decision is forthcoming and supporters shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out the club’s next move.
In other Rangers news, a pundit was baffled by Beale’s decision to bench one player in particular during the defeat at Kilmarnock.
