Tom English makes ‘howitzer’ Rangers prediction for BBC after new transfers

Rangers are going all-in on their recruitment this summer, with no guarantee of how effective they will be as they adapt to life in Glasgow, as they look forward to the first Old Firm derby of the season, according to Tom English.

The BBC journalist shared his belief that the first derby of the season will be a “howitzer” as Michael Beale’s side prepares to mount a stronger chase for the title than they managed last time out following droves of incoming signings.

The reporter does question the effectiveness of these signings, as he suggests some may find it difficult to adapt to the “harsh reality” of life in Glasgow, asking whether they will adapt, or simply fade into the background.

Sink or swim? We’ll soon find out

Rangers have brought nine fresh faces to the club with summer under the instructions of Beale, whose aim has been to overhaul the squad he inherited and replace old names with new, exciting, talented players.

There has been particular investment in the forward areas, with Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, Abdallah Sima and Danilo all arriving following the departures of former Rangers stars Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, who left the club on the expiry of their contracts.

Questions have been raised surrounding Beale’s ability to build an entirely new squad, due to his managerial inexperience, with plenty of incoming players so far not met by many outgoings which would balance the books.

Whether the new players are able to effectively adapt to life in Glasgow, and the weight of expectation that comes along with pulling on the Ranger shirt at Ibrox, is yet to be seen. A fast start could see them mount a title charge, but they could equally fall away as their relentless opponents march on.

In other Rangers news, one star is finally in direct talks to quit Ibrox.
