Pundit shares Rangers and Celtic verdict as ‘eye-watering’ Ibrox numbers arise

Former Rangers, Celtic and Hearts defender Steven Pressley cannot see the Scottish Premiership domination from the Gers and the Bhoys ending this season.

The new campaign will mark over 38 years since the league title was last won by a club other than Glasgow’s “big two,” according to BBC Sport.

Pressley’s belief comes amid the revelation from BBC Sport that in 2021/22, Rangers and Celtic made up 95% of transfer fees in the division.

“At this moment, I just don’t see it [the domination ending],” Pressley told BBC Scotland.

The report added: “Data provided to BBC Scotland by football finance expert Kieran Maguire tells us that Celtic and Rangers make up 70% of the Premiership’s total revenue.

Their wages account for 69% of the league’s total, while they amount to 96% for combined squad costs. In 2021-22, they made up 95% of transfer fees in the division. Eye-watering numbers for sure.”

More dominance incoming

As the numbers show, Rangers and Celtic really do hold a monopoly in the Scottish Premiership, and that is a scenario that certainly doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.

The two Glasgow giants have spent big once again this summer in order to extend their dominance over the rest of the clubs in the division, with the duo allowed to spend big thanks to their European adventures.

The huge attendances week in, week out at Celtic Park and Ibrox of course help matters, but it is the success that both clubs have in terms of European competition that really sets them apart from the chasing pack in the Scottish Premiership.

Unsurprisingly, things are once again going full circle, with Michael Beale using the money available from Europe to bring in nine new players this summer, in the hope that they can hit the ground running and take Rangers far in the upcoming Champions League.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has mooted a “leading role” for one Gers ace who has “endeared himself” to fans of the club.
