Alex Lowry rejects SPFL moves as Rangers loan exit to Hearts confirmed

Alex Lowry “knocked back” offers from rival SPFL clubs to complete a loan move from Rangers to Hearts, according to Scott Burns.

Scottish Express journalist reported via Twitter on Friday night, as the winger’s move to Tynecastle was confirmed, that he had alternative options within the Scottish top flight but rejected them for the Jambos.

The 20-year-old has signed up for a year-long loan in Edinburgh but the Light Blues have got a recall option in the deal that could bring him back to Ibrox if required.

Lowry only made seven SPFL appearances for Rangers last season so gets the opportunity to impress with more regular football at Hearts in a move tipped to benefit all involved.

He joins Antonio Colak, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent as Ibrox attackers to have departed this summer, with loanee Malik Tillman also gone from last season’s squad.

Intent

From a Gers point of view it has to be hoped that the young attacker’s eagerness to take up the Hearts move over his other choices within the division means he will flourish in his desired location.

Lowry playing regularly in the Scottish Premiership and proving himself an able operator would be very useful for Michael Beale going forward after a summer in which he has had to source extensive new additions in the transfer market.

Although the Gers boss has successfully signed four new attacking recruits in Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Abdallah Sima, it hasn’t come cheap, with only the latter arriving on loan and not costing multiple millions.

Rangers

If Lowry had already established himself as a first-team regular it may have allowed Beale to channel more of the transfer budget towards other positions, with more help possibly still required in defence.

With Fashion Sakala and Scott Wright likely following those who have already gone the attacking overhaul has been extensive, but with Lowry’s development having stalled in the past two years he clearly wasn’t deemed ready to step up.

Beale will hope that when he comes to formulating his transfer plans next summer, or possibly even in January, he can count on the academy product to provide answers and save him more work in the market.

In other Rangers news, the club could be set to sign a “legend” who may make an “impact” on and off the pitch at Ibrox.
