Rangers will challenge Jose Cifuentes ‘in a different way’, says Ibrox title-winner Maurice Edu

Jose Cifuentes is well suited to the challenge he is set to embark on with Rangers in Scotland, according to Maurice Edu.

The Gers are set to announce their ninth signing of the summer according to Sky Sports News (2 August) who reported online that the Ecuadorian has arrived in Glasgow to complete the switch from LAFC.

And Edu, who played for both Rangers and in the MLS as 24-year-old Cifuentes is set to do, believes that the midfielder, who has played for his country 19 times, will rise to the challenge.

“His work rate on both sides of the ball and his ability on the ball allows him to be impactful when he is on the pitch and will suit what the SPL will demand out of him,” Edu said, as reported by The Herald Scotland (3 August).

“Going to a massive club like Rangers will challenge him in a different way and mature his game even more and the opportunity to potentially play in European competitions will be something he relishes.”

Exciting

This is a signing that will certainly get fans off their seats next season. Cifuentes is clearly keen on the switch after agreeing a pre-contract with the club to join in December and pushing to make the move happen as soon as the summer.

The fact that the player is so eager to get to Glasgow is a very positive sign for supporters who will now be more inclined to get behind him from the moment he kicks a ball at Ibrox.

Rangers

Still just 24 and with plenty of international experience, now seems like the perfect time for the player to make the switch from America to European football and if fans weren’t excited enough, the high praise from one of their former players will only convince them further that this is a big signing.

It is set to be an exhilarating title race this season after the return of Brendan Rodgers to Celtic and Michael Beale’s busy transfer window with Rangers, and it will be interesting to see if Cifuentes can be a difference-maker.

In other Rangers news, a player’s move away from the club has now broken down.
