Mark Warburton impressed by Rangers signing Danilo who has ‘great quality’

Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton is impressed by the signing of striker Danilo who he described as having “great quality”.

The Brazilian forward arrived from Feyenoord on a five-year contract on 28 July (official website) in a deal Sky Sports reported could be worth up to £6million.

Warburton, who had a spell in charge at Ibrox between 2015 and 2017, says he has known about Danilo for some time.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Warburton said: “I like Danilo. He’s a good player and a decent signing.

“I’ve known of him for a while from his Feyenoord days. He’s got great quality.”

A signing to excite

Danilo is one of eight players to arrive at Ibrox this summer, with Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers also signing on as part of a heavy rebuild.

LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes is on the brink of being announced as the ninth too, as Michael Beale attempts to construct a squad capable of overhauling Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season.

But, like Warburton alludes to, Danilo is arguably the signing that excites more than any other. Perhaps it is the affinity football fans the world over have for Brazilian footballers, with their penchant for flair and skill, that makes it so.

He scored 10 goals in 34 Eredivisie outings last season, though only 10 of those were as a starter and with more opportunities to play from the beginning he could really excel at Ibrox this season. If he does then those chances of taking down Celtic will increase massively.

In other Rangers news, a deal to sign Jonathan Panzo has seemingly collapsed with a Championship club ready to swoop.
