Rangers transfer news as Scott Wright exit fully breaks down

Rangers winger Scott Wright’s move away from Ibrox has fully broken down after contract issues have emerged, according to The Fourth Official.

Writing on their Patreon page on Wednesday (2 August) they reported that the 25-year-old had returned to Glasgow having previously been in Turkey to agree to a deal that would see him depart Ibrox, but no agreement could be reached.

Rangers had agreed a fee of £500,000 with Pendikspor before talks with the player reached their conclusion. What issues there were in the player’s new contract haven’t been specifically reported, but talks haven’t broken down due to any wage demands.

Discussing the collapse of a potential deal, T4O said: “Now, as many of you have seen, Scott Wright is back in Glasgow. I have been informed by my very reliable source close to the Rangers board that the move to Turkey is not happening now or ever.

“The reason being is contractual issues (not wages) and not because he has had a change of heart.”

Where to next

It is clear that Wright’s future lies away from Ibrox this summer, he is one of many to be a victim of the revolution currently being carried out in Glasgow by Michael Beale with an array of new forward options leaving him waiting in the wings.

This was the second time the winger has jetted to Turkey in an attempt to complete a move but has instead come back empty handed and it must be just as frustrating a situation for the player as it is for Rangers as they attempt to move him off their books.

The influx of players on the Blue side of Glasgow this summer has left the Gers with a need to trim down their squad and Wright is one of a couple they hope to offload as he seemingly has no future at the club. But if deals keep falling through Rangers must wonder whether they’re going to be able to sell him.

One positive for all parties is that the relationship between the player and club seems to be healthy enough that there will be continued cooperation to resolve the situation. With Glen Kamara currently training on his own, the speed at which Wright returned to training with the squad shows they are not trying to force him out the door without securing him a move he can agree with.
