Rangers transfer news as countdown now on until Glen Kamara exit

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is set to leave the club in the coming days, with the countdown now on for the player’s exit, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition [01 August, pg 63] that it is no longer a matter of if, but when Kamara will depart from Ibrox, and at what price tag any deal would be.

The story states that Kamara staying at Rangers beyond the transfer deadline would be in neither his nor the club’s best interests, as Rangers hope to raise around £5million from his sale.

It’s time to part ways

Kamara arrived at Rangers in January 2019 for the tiny price tag of just £50,000. If the club are now able to sell him at the £5million they are asking for, it would represent a profit of 100x what they paid for him just over four years ago.

This type of business is brilliant for any club, making a considerable profit from a player sale, as it helps to balance the books. Especially in Rangers’ situation, with the club having made a multitude of signings this summer, getting such a profitable income will definitely help.

The Finnish midfielder played a huge role in the 2021 league-winning side under Steven Gerrard, in which they stopped bitter rivals Celtic from accomplishing the ten-in-a-row feat.

In that team, Kamara had become somewhat of a fan favourite, with his ability to keep play ticking and make the game look simple in the middle of the park creating an imposing aura which Gerrard’s side utilised excellently.

Under Michael Beale though, Kamara has become a bit-part player, having made just one start since the cup-final loss to Celtic, and now is the right time to move on.

In other Rangers news, Michael Beale has issued a warning to fans ahead of the new season.
