Leading role mooted for Todd Cantwell next season, Rangers ace has ‘endeared himself’ to fans

Todd Cantwell has been backed to play a “leading role” at Rangers next season by Daily Record journalist Ben Banks.

The midfielder joined Michael Beale’s side from Norwich City in January, becoming the manager’s first signing at Ibrox.

Beale has signed eight more players in the summer transfer window, as well as bringing in Nicolas Raskin with Cantwell in January.

Mooting a “leading role” for Cantwell next season, Banks wrote for the Daily Record: “He’s vowed to give it his all and amid plenty of players looking to prove their Ibrox worth, one of Beale’s signings already has.

“Cantwell has endeared himself to fans since his January arrival from Norwich City and will be a key man in the fight to win the title.”

There has been plenty of movement at Ibrox this summer, beginning with the five player exits at the end of last season.

Allan McGregor, Filip Helander, Scott Arfield, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos all left upon the expiry of their contracts, with the likes of Malik Tillman leaving after his loan spell and Antonio Colak exiting Ibrox for Parma.

That meant Beale needed to delve into the market for new players, but that was always the plan as the Gers look to challenge fierce rivals Celtic in all competitions next season.

But one player already at the club was Cantwell, whose signing represented a real risk from Beale given the midfielder’s struggles at Norwich.

He has, however, shone at Ibrox since joining, immediately hitting the ground running with plenty of dazzling displays in midfield.

If the recent summer arrivals can emulate his performances, Rangers can certainly look forward to a successful season.

In other Rangers news, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has shared a Gers transfer verdict amid a “strong” claim regarding the Ibrox club.
