Former Rangers player Greg Stewart puzzled by Glen Kamara exile as transfer speculation continues
Former Rangers player and teammate of Glen Kamara, Greg Stewart has admitted he is puzzled by how the Finnish international’s Ibrox career is set to end, in an interview with the Daily Record.
Stewart who currently plays for Mumbai City in India, shared the Ibrox changing room with Kamara between 2019 and 2021, making 21 appearances under the management of Steven Gerrard but has revealed his surprise at how Kamara’s time in Glasgow has panned out.
The 27-year-old was revealed to be training on his own away from his Rangers’ teammates as discussions and enquiries continue about the potential next step in his career, with Michael Beale no longer seeing him as part of his plans and the Scottish giants holding out for a £5m fee to let him leave Ibrox.

Stewart admitted he was surprised by the situation telling the Scottish outlet: “Football can be a funny game at times because, with Glen, it’s only a couple of years since you really thought he was going places. Obviously, new managers come in and have different views on players and where they fit.
“It sounds like he’s had a chat with the manager and decided the best decision is for Glen to go and now it’s about finding a club willing to pay what Rangers want. It’s a strange one for me though as I know Glen and what he can do on the pitch.
“During my time at the club, he was central to everything we did. I thought he could easily have moved to the Premier League or a big European league at that time. I thought clubs would be queuing up for him. That’s the quality he had.
“Unfortunately for Rangers, they’re going to get nowhere near the level of cash they would have two years ago, which will be a frustration business-wise.”

Puzzling for everyone
Stewart couldn’t have put it much better when he described football as a “funny game.” Few could’ve predicted just a year ago that this is how Kamara’s time in Glasgow would end, but there doesn’t seem to be anyone back for either the player or the club.
Kamara, like many, is a talented player, but that doesn’t mean that Beale should change his entire style or method to accommodate him and as a sellable asset it makes sense they will try and move him on.
However, £5m is a lot of money for a player everyone in the world now knows Rangers no longer want at the club, typically when that sort of news breaks it only makes teams less likely to foot the bill.
For the Gers to move Kamara on this summer there will have to be some wiggle room in that fee, maybe not by much, but if he still holds an ambition to play in Europe, he is more than likely going to have to cost less than that.
Hopefully, a solution can be found before the window closes in a month as the world of football deserves to watch a player with as much talent as the Finnish international.
