Michael Beale calls for patience with ‘teething problems’ for new Rangers transfers

Rangers boss Michael Beale has called for fans to be patient with the team and the new signings following an average pre-season, as shared by Football Scotland.

Beale admitted there will be teething problems with the number of new signings at Ibrox this summer and has called for patience as the players adapt to their new surroundings and to the way the Englishman wants them to play and fit in with his side.

Rangers bosses have backed Beale relentlessly this summer, making eight new signings so far, set to become nine with the arrival of Jose Cifuentes this week, and expectations at the club are high going into next week’s season opener against Kilmarnock.

The Rangers boss spoke to the media following the friendly draw against Hoffenheim, admitting: “Is it going to be perfect straight away? No. You can see there’s going to be some teething problems. But we’ve got good players, and as long as they all get in line and in tune quickly, we’ll be okay.

“The league’s not going to be over after match one. We’ll play each game that’s in front of us. This is a new team. It’s what we wanted, it’s what the fans wanted. There’s a lot of excitement.

“Now we need to support it, fuel it. We need to get it fit and strong and together. The fans need to get behind us. We’ll take a game at a time and see where it takes us.”

The Londoner went on to assess how he thinks his side will start the season, stating: “This month we’ll play in three competitions. There’s a group of players here who won a lot of football matches from Christmas onwards when I came in. So I expect them to go and win some more this month.”

Fans will be hoping for a fast start

Following a busy summer of plenty of transfer activity, the mood among Rangers fans is a mixed one at the moment. A busy transfer window usually provides plenty of optimism, but some poor performances and results in pre-season have soured the mood somewhat.

Questions have been asked about Beale’s ability to build a squad, but the board have backed him relentlessly, and it is now on him to ensure the team performs to the required level.

A fast start against Kilmarnock on 5 August will ease tensions at the club, as the new signings continue the bedding-in process that always follows a move to a new club, a new country and a new style.

The boss’ comments at least show a display of awareness of their situation. Calling for calm and being reasonable about expectations will allow the side not to get too high at the highs, or low at the lows that they will inevitably face throughout a long season.
