Fashion Sakala may feel he ‘deserves more of a chance’ as Rangers exit get closer

Rangers striker Fashion Sakala may feel like he deserves more of a chance at Ibrox this season after impressing last season, according to Joshua Barrie of the Rangers Review.

Michael Beale was quoted in the Daily Record [31 July, pg 49] saying that an exit for the striker wasn’t any closer, but the forward is understood to be close to departing Ibrox amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Zambian forward managed to score eight goals and assist on another eight occasions in 24 matches, but with the Gers already making eight signings this summer, Sakala is likely to depart Ibrox.

Discussing the striker’s position, Barrie said: “Rangers can’t have another year where James Tavernier is their top scorer, they just need numbers in that front line.

“If you look at Cyriel Dessers, Danilo, Sam Lammers and Kemar Roofe is obviously back into the fold there’s maybe room for one more player there. With Zak Lovelace in the B-Team, you’ll want to create a pathway for him.

“I think he would justifiably look at his numbers from last season and say that he deserves more of a chance. I think with the frontline you’ve got to be ruthless and make ruthless decisions and with the players that have been brought in so far, it reflects the amount of attention that needed to be paid to that frontline this summer.”

Suffering from other’s success

It isn’t Sakala’s fault whatsoever that Beale has needed to freshen up his frontline, it is the nature of having to chase Celtic this summer that there was going to be turnover, especially in the frontline where they fell short of their Old Firm Rivals last year.

He is one of a number of players you could suggest have suffered from the new signings’ success, with his impact on the Gers under Beale last season already forgotten as the new men arrive at Ibrox.

But for his own career, this makes it all the more obvious that he should leave Glasgow for pastures new this summer as he is far too good to end up as the fifth or sixth striking option in the Gers’ pecking order.

Rangers will need to find a buyer, but if they want to continue adding to their squad this transfer window, a solution to Sakala’s current position will have to be found, and quickly.
