Sam Lammers answers ‘question marks’ in perfect fashion with Rangers pre-season heroics

There is plenty of pressure on the new Rangers signings to perform next season, with pressure also expected to be on manager Michael Beale if they don’t pay off.

The man in the dugout has brought in eight players this summer, and he may not stop there between now and the end of the transfer window.

As always, expectations will be high on the new men in the door at Ibrox, with fans and pundits wanting and indeed needing the signings to immediately hit the ground running in Scotland.

One pundit has already touched on this issue, with Kenny Miller writing for the Daily Record (2 July): “Abdallah Sima and Lammers have come off the back of poor seasons at relegated clubs.

“So you can’t say with any great belief that they’ll hit it off. There are question marks. And only the players themselves can answer them.”

Sima may not have answered those question marks just yet, but Lammers has, with the striker netting two goals for his new club so far.

The 26-year-old showcased his goalscoring ability by finding the back of the net in the pre-season clashes against both Newcastle United and Hoffenheim.

Many critics will argue that his goals have come in matches that mean next to nothing in the grand scheme of things, but the strikes will do Lammers the world of good, particularly how he netted the same amount of goals in 34 matches in Italy last season.

That total really wasn’t good enough from the forward, who spent time away from parent club Atalanta at both Empoli and Sampdoria last time out.

Now, however, he should be a bit more settled with this permanent move to Ibrox, with the player adapting perfectly to his new surroundings.

Of course, the hard work hasn’t exactly started at Ibrox, with that set to come in the coming weeks as Rangers open both their Scottish Premiership and Champions League campaigns.
