Alfredo Morelos set to make La Liga switch after Rangers release

Former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos looks to be set to remain in Europe with Bolan Latino reporting via the Daily Record the forward is closer to signing with Granada in La Liga.

The Colombian outlet claim the forward, who has been without a club since his release from Ibrox this summer, is set to join the Spanish side who won the Segunda Division last year and therefore with return to Spain’s top-flight.

Morelos had been very open about his desire to remain in Europe for the coming season but had failed to find a potential suitor, instead training on his own and sharing clips of pre-season work.

Rangers

Discussing the report from the Colombian publication, Mark Pirie writes: “The forward appeared to be in major jeopardy of missing out on a contract this summer after Michael Beale opted against offering him a new Rangers contract but had openly stated that he wanted to ‘stay in Europe’ next season.

“Now Morelos looks set to get his wish with a report in Colombia stating that Granada are set to snap up the out-of-contract striker after their return to the Spanish top-flight.

“Balon Latino claim Morelos is ‘confident’ of agreeing a deal with the Segunda Division champions stating he likes the “economic conditions and the contract time of the agreement” despite a late interest from Celta Vigo.

“It is stated that clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia had also made initial contract with Morelos representatives.”

A good move

Morelos had one wish this summer, to remain in Europe, and whether he imagined it would be with a newly promoted Spanish side or someone a bit higher profile, he got there in the end.

Now a move to Granada is a long way away from the links to Premier League clubs that the Colombian forward was experiencing a few years ago, such as interest from Brighton, but it is by no means a bad move for the 27-year-old.

Rangers

The Spanish side only have three recognised forwards in their squad, with Senegalese striker Famara Diedhiou also joining the ranks this summer. However, they will need more firepower to secure their place in La Liga for another year.

On a personal note, Morelos needs to get himself fit. He was nowhere near the standard required for Rangers last year, potentially marring what should have been an impressive spell at Ibrox.

Yet he still managed to score 11 goals and assist on a further six occasions, showing his eye for goal hasn’t gone anywhere yet. There’s no doubt he will manage to score plenty of goals on the continent.
