Rangers want to sign Ross Stewart amid Sunderland contract dispute after Danilo arrival confirmed
Rangers want to sign Sunderland striker Ross Stewart after confirming the arrival of Danilo on Friday, according to a report by TEAMtalk.
Writing on their official website (28 July), the online news outlet reports that the Scotland international has failed to agree a new deal at the Stadium of Light despite numerous offers which has attracted the attention of several clubs.
Michael Beale’s side announced their eighth summer signing on Friday in Brazilian striker Danilo, who follows fellow striker Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers into Ibrox, but the report states that Stewart is someone Rangers would like to sign.
“Sunderland are facing a battle to hang on to Ross Stewart this summer, with the Scotland international rejecting numerous contract offers in a development that has alerted four sides, TEAMtalk understands,” they wrote.
“We understand that the offers are someway below Stewart’s expectations and not reflective of a player who is considered one of the best centre-forwards in the Championship.
“As such, a host of Championship clubs including Southampton, Stoke City and local rivals Middlesbrough are amongst the sides interested in signing the striker.
“From further afield, we understand Scottish giants Rangers are interested in bringing Stewart back across the border.”
Bye, bye Roofe?
Beale made a big deal about fixing the attacking section of the squad this summer with three strikers brought in plus the arrivals of Abdallah Sima and Kieran Dowell in advanced positions.
But if this news about Stewart is accurate, then surely it would mean players need to leave and Kemar Roofe would likely be at the front of that queue.

The Jamaican has struggled with fitness issues and finds himself way down the pecking order, but will still feel that he has something to offer to a team that takes him on.
It would also raise more questions about the future of Fashion Sakala Jr who has turned down a move to Saudi Arabia, while Scott Wright is likely to head to Turkey before the window shuts.
Incomings have been excellent this summer, but now we need to start moving people on before more players arrive to ensure we’re not over-stocked.
