Chris Jack: Rangers could make ‘significant’ 10th signing with three more deals on the cards
Rangers must now focus on signing a new centre-back after completing deals for Danilo and Jose Cifuentes, according to Chris Jack.
The Herald’s Senior Rangers Writer wrote online (28 July) that after a recruitment drive which has addressed the problems in attack, the club must now switch their focus to their defensive issues.
In particular, Jack believes that Michael Beale must make signing number 10 this summer a brand new centre-back to partner Connor Goldson upon his return from injury.

“The deals for Danilo and Cifuentes will take the number of new arrivals to nine at Ibrox. The one after that could prove to be the most significant if Beale makes signing ten his first pick at centre-back,” Jack wrote.
Spot on
Beale has certainly addressed the side’s goalscoring issues from the previous campaign during this transfer window. Money has been spent on the likes of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers while Danilo is set to join and in midfield, the confirmed arrival of Abdallah Sima and the expected arrival of Cifuentes will certainly help going forward.
And while goals win games, as Jack remarks, it is clean sheets which are needed in order to lift titles. Last season the Gers conceded 37 goals, their highest tally since their second year back in Scotland’s top flight.

It is a big contrast to Steven Gerrard’s invincible side which conceded just 13 times in the league and if the club want to return to anywhere near those levels, a new centre-back is certainly required.
Since the top flight was rebranded as the Premiership, the team with the best defensive record has won the title every season bar one, underlining the importance of a solid backline.
In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has shared three players at the Ibrox that would start for Celtic.
