Scott Wright transfer talks continue as Rangers exit still on cards at Ibrox

Rangers’ Scott Wright remains in negotiations to quit the club after recently visiting Turkish side Pendikspor without signing terms, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [27 July, pg 76] that Wright remains in talks to leave Michael Beale’s side this summer, with the 25-year-old snubbed from the squad in the Gers pre-season defeat at the hands of Olympiacos.

Wright has been one of many Rangers players linked with the exit door at Ibrox this summer, as Beale attempts to freshen up his squad and let go of several of his ‘fringe players’ in the transfer window.

The Mail wrote: “Wright flew to talks with Turkey for talks with Pendikspor last week, returning without signing terms. Left out of the squad for last night’s defeat, negotiations are ongoing.

Beale was very open about the state of the deal, saying after the defeat to Olympiacos: “Scott went out to Turkey last week as everyone knows. You can’t go anywhere these days without the camera, and he was caught. Negotiations are on in the background.”

Time to depart

It’s no secret that Rangers want to sell Wright, the immense level of turnover this summer has left the winger with no obvious role in Beale’s side this season and it feels like with every passing day there is a new arrival on the way to push him down the pecking order.

Wright only started five matches in the Scottish Premiership last season, missing out on the Rangers squad entirely for the final two games of the campaign and it is obvious that both he and those in charge at Ibrox view his future elsewhere.

At only 25 years old, Wright should really be entering the prime of his career, rather than seeing his involvement dwindle in front of his eyes from the bench at Ibrox, for the sake of his career he has to find a move that is right for him.

That may not be at Pendikspor, with negotiations appearing to stall that may not be the right fit for the winger. But there will be plenty of clubs interested in signing a former Scottish youth international for a reasonable fee, which Rangers will likely agree on as they want Wright off their books.

Hopefully, for all parties, a sensible exit can be agreed sooner, rather than later.
