Sam Lammers wows as ‘most encouraging’ Rangers summer signing as ‘astute addition’ verdict shared

Sam Lammers is the “most encouraging” summer signing from Rangers, according to Daily Record journalist Ross Pilcher.

The striker joined the Gers from Serie A club Atalanta last month on a four-year deal, as per the official Rangers website.

And the 26-year-old Dutchman is already off the mark for his new club, scoring in the 2-1 pre-season friendly loss to Newcastle United earlier this month.

“Perhaps the most encouraging [of the summer signings],” Pilcher wrote for the Daily Record. “The Dutchman’s goal record in recent seasons did not get fans excited. Two in each of his last three campaigns did not scream natural finisher.

“But he did open his account against Newcastle and his all round game is clever. Once his fellow new forwards are up to speed, then he could prove to be an astute addition, although the pressure to score isn’t going to go away.”

Strong start

Lammers has arrived amid much scrutiny, with many fans pointing to his lack of goals in recent seasons as a sign of worrying times to come at Ibrox.

But Michael Beale has clearly brought the striker to the club for good reason, with the manager’s recruits doing well in Scotland so far.

He has signed seven players this summer, and not all will immediately hit the ground running at Ibrox.

But January arrivals Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell both adapted to life the Gers straight away, with Beale desperate for his summer recruits to have similar success in the early stages of the new campaign.

It does, however, start very soon, meaning the likes of Lammers and fellow forwards Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima haven’t got much time to get their shooting boots on.

Fortunately for Lammers, he is off the mark, and even though it was only a friendly, the goal should do his confidence the world of good.
