Alex Lowry set for Rangers loan exit as interest from England emerges

Alex Lowry is set to leave Rangers on loan this summer, with Northampton Town interested in the midfielder, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish newspaper reported on its website on Wednesday (26 July) that the Gers are looking at potential options for the 20-year-old.

The newspaper added that Rangers manager Michael Beale believes Lowry could benefit from a loan move next season.

“Northampton are among a number of clubs who are keen on taking Alex Lowry on loan and Rangers are looking at potential options for their talented young playmaker,” according to the Daily Record.

“The newly-promoted English League One outfit are interested in taking the 20-year-old south.

“Michael Beale has signed a number of players in the midfield area this summer and feels Lowry could benefit from going out to get first-team football to aid his development.”

Good move

Given just how many players Beale has brought to Ibrox this summer, it seems that an exit for Lowry is the only real option if the youngster wants regular minutes on the pitch next season.

But he is clearly highly valued at the Glasgow club, and rightfully so, meaning a loan move is definitely the right option for the player and for Rangers.

Lowry may not end up at Northampton, with a handful of sides no doubt set to be interested in the youngster, but the newly-promoted League One club are clearly on an upward trajectory, and so would represent a good move for the midfielder.

Beale has focused on his defence and attack this summer, strengthening the back through the signatures of Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun, and the final third through Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima.

Kieran Dowell, however, has arrived in midfield, and could be followed very shortly by Los Angeles FC ace Jose Cifuentes.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have had a £5.2million bid accepted for a new player, according to Sky Sports.
