Rangers transfer news as Jose Cifuentes fee emerges from Ibrox

Rangers are set to secure the signing of Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes for around £400,000, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish newspaper reported on 25 July that the Gers had agreed to sign the Ecuador international on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the year, but they are instead looking to sign him now.

It said the MLS side are now open to letting the 24-year-old leave for a fee of about £400,000 after they previously valued him at £1.2million.

A steal

If Rangers are set to sign Cifuentes for the reported £400k fee, then that is an absolute steal for the club as they look to strengthen their options in the middle of the park this summer.

LA FC previously valued him at three times that price, so they will be disappointed to lose him for considerably less than they were hoping to receive, but they will be keen to not lose him on a free at the end of the year.

Since arriving at the club for a reported £2.3million fee in 2020, the Ecuadorian has really caught the eye in his 121 appearances, where he scored 15 goals and registered 20 assists.

He played a major role in helping the LA club lift the MLS title in 2022, having bagged seven goals and laying on eight assists, with his performances leading to the Gers spending the majority of the transfer window so far trying to secure his services.

They will now be keen to get the deal over the line for the box-to-box midfielder to get him embedded in the squad ahead of the start of the new season.

In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson has tipped the club to let more players go this summer.
