Rangers transfer update: Strong end to window on the cards with more business to come after Danilo deal

The Rangers transfer window appears to be far from over with more business tipped to follow after the conclusion of the race to sign Danilo, according to Dean Jones.

The Gers have closed in on the 24-year-old Feyenoord striker after a “take it or leave it” bid of around £6million was tabled [De Telegraaf, 23 July], with a high chance of success now expected imminently.

His arrival would come on top of fellow forwards Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, and Abdallah Sima, in addition to the free transfers of midfielder Keiran Dowell, goalkeeper Jack Butland and defenders Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun, but with Antonio Colak already sold and Scott Wright set to follow Jones believes there is plenty still to come before deadline day.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT the former Eurosport journalist said: “Yeah, I think it’s fair to expect that this won’t be the end of their transfer business [Dessers and Danilo]. They have tried to move fast for the key areas that needed to change, but there are other areas that need to be sorted too.

“I think that there’s some talent on the fringes that need to be trimmed, but then I expect Rangers to finish this transfer window strongly as well.”

Active

The Rangers transfer window has likely surpassed the expectations of some already, so if there is much more still to come it could prove to be extremely fruitful.

Most managers, and certainly most supporters, would always like at least one more new arrival through the doors in every market, but what has arrived so far looks encouraging.

Danilo would really top off a new-look attack and would suggest that Michael Beale has managed to land all of his top targets in forward areas.

Rangers

The manager has revealed that a Jose Cifuentes pre-contract deal is done [Sky Sports, 21 July], so it appears to just be a matter of when he arrives dependent on whether a fee with LAFC can be agreed to bring him in this summer.

Jonathan Panzo is the other name most closely linked to an Ibrox move this summer, and would solidify a back line that has proven to be highly injury prone.

Whether Glen Kamara and possibly Fashion Sakala leave, both linked with exits, will depend on what offers come forward, with the Zambian seemingly more likely to play a big role next season.

Currently, things are looking positive, but it won’t mean anything if performances don’t follow so while the window has proven to be a success so far, and may yet get even better, it can only be a qualified success until it is backed up in practice.

In other Rangers news, a high-quality current Ibrox star will have to be enjoyed while he is still here as a top-level exit has already been warned.
