Rangers transfer news: £39,000-a-week Danilo claim in dispute as striker nears £6m conclusion ‘very soon’
The huge increase in wages that Danilo has been tipped to receive if the Feyenoord forward completes a move to Rangers has been disputed, according to Rangers Review.
A Sunday night report from De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, while mooting a deal for around £6million to “almost certainly” get the green light, claimed that part of the reason the 24-year-old was so keen on the Ibrox move was the chance to more than double his wages to €45,000-a-week [£39,000].
But, although Michael Beale does appear to be closing in on another of his desired targets this summer, the major pay-rise is apparently wide of the mark.
Speaking on the Rangers Review Morning Briefing on Monday (24 July, 1m) Derek Clark said: “Local leading journalist Marcel van der Kraan, you’ll see him on Sky Sports and the likes, he’s stated the striker has been offered a weekly salary of €45,000 per week.
“However, sources at the club have poured cold water on that claim. The likelihood of the forward doubling his wages, it is believed that is wide of the mark…
“Rangers pursuit of Danilo has been ongoing for some time now but it certainly looks like we’re going to be reaching a conclusion very soon.”
Joshua Barrie added: “On the wages, as you said, I believe that’s not true. If he was to be earning €45,000 he would be one of, if not the highest earner at the club.
“I guess that will happen with new signings at points but not in this case. It’s a lot of money to be spending on a player but I think that shows you just how much Michael Beale likes him.”
Even better
Big wages will obviously help any side attract new signings, with the Saudi Arabian exodus this summer proving that beyond doubt.
But if Rangers are indeed set to land a key target without having to break their salary structure then it is that much of a more encouraging deal.
It isn’t over the line yet and Beale can’t bank on the Brazilian until a contact is signed but adding him to his new stable of forwards would likely satisfy him for this window and see him move his focus elsewhere in the line up.

The transfer budget has stretched further than some predictions suggested prior to the window opening, but whether a new highest earner, likely for a number of years into the future, landing on the wage bill would have been possible is perhaps in question.
It appears Danilo won’t be that if his move is completed, so getting him over the line as the eighth signing of the summer on wages that aren’t extortionate should represent a solid job all round for the manager and his recruitment department.
The Feyenoord man, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima, as well as Fashion Sakala if he remains past deadline day, represent a strong group on paper and hopes will be rising for the new season.
In other Rangers news, there is still some extensive business still to come after this deal is concluded with a journalist expecting the club to end the window “strongly”.
