Rangers set for multi-million cash boost as Glen Kamara transfer news emerge

Glen Kamara is expected to leave Rangers this summer as a release clause has emerged in his contract, and the Gers could well be set for a much-needed cash injection.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth reported on 21 July, that the Finland international is seen as an “obtainable” target for Leeds United, with internal talks held about a potential move to Elland Road.

The 27-year-old is yet to return to pre-season training but is expected back this week, although Michael Beale recently confirmed that there have been enquiries for his services and it appears as though a move to Leeds could yet be on the agenda with a release clause of £5m in his contract.

“Rangers’ Glen Kamara has also been looked at and with a release clause believed to be in the region of £5m would be another obtainable midfield target,” Smyth wrote.

The Yorkshire Evening Post wrote on 17 July that the 27-year-old had been looked at by Leeds for weeks with the Whites desperate to add to their midfield ranks following the confirmed departure of Marc Roca on Monday (17 July).

It certainly doesn’t seem as if Kamara has a place in the Gers team for the forthcoming season, with the Gers reaching a pre-contract agreement to sign Ecuadorian midfielder Jose Cifuentes, as confirmed by Beale in midweek.

Rangers

The Finnish midfielder was a favourite during Steven Gerrard’s time at the club and played a key part as they won the Scottish Premiership during the 2020/21 campaign, making 33 league appearances for the club, averaging 78.3 minutes per game, as well as playing ten times in the Europa League.

However, fast forward just under two years later and Kamara emerged as a bit-part player under both Giovanni Van Bronckhurst and Beale, making just 22 league appearances for Rangers with many of those appearances coming off the bench starting just one game since the club’s League Cup final loss against Celtic in February.

With Rangers currently undergoing a major rebuild right now, fresh off securing their seventh signing of the summer in Leon Balogun, Beale and the top brass at Ibrox are reportedly desperate to balance that out with several departures, and Kamara had emerged as one of the names at the top of the exodus list.

And given the potential £5m cash boost, the Rangers bosses will be laughing and chuckling to the bank especially considering Kamara is no longer needed under Beale’s tutelage. That money could be well spent elsewhere towards the squad and other pressing needs surrounding the club as a whole.

The Finnish international can certainly now look towards a new lease of life elsewhere with Leeds United potentially offering him an exciting escape route which may be best for all parties involved.

Good riddance on his part and the Rangers faithful.
