Rangers close in on Danilo transfer as fee plus bonuses edges closer at Ibrox

Rangers are edging closer to agreeing a deal for Feyenoord striker Danilo following new talks this week, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

According to the report (21 July), Rangers have significantly upped the package on offer to €6m (£5.2m), including realistic performance-related add-ons with other bonuses on top but less achievable.

Sources close to the deal feel the clubs are not far apart on agreeing a fee, and that there is a belief on both sides that the transfer will finally get done after the Light Blues have submitted three bids for the Brazilian.

Breakthrough

Rangers are quite clearly on the hunt for another striker after letting Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak leave the club this summer, and after completing deals for Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima and Cyriel Dessers, it is clear that Beale sees Danilo as his marquee acquisition.

And Danilo would certainly represent the final part of the attacking jigsaw at Ibrox, with Michael Beale clearly a fan of the Brazilian and it is easy to see why given his tremendous all-round game.

Rangers

Danilo impressed for the Dutch side last season scoring ten league goals and his qualities in the attacking sense are quite clear, recording three assists, averaging 0.2 assists per 90 in the past year, placing him in the 87th percentile, when compared to his positional peers in Europe’s top-eight leagues.

The Brazilian is also tremendously creative and efficient out of possession, as evidenced by his ranking in the top 18% of forwards across the continent for shot-creating actions per 90, and ranking in the 97th percentile for interceptions highlighting that he isn’t only influential when scoring and creating but also defending from the front – characteristics which could prove so effective next season.

Rangers know they need to add goals to the side, and the likelihood is that bit-part Kemar Roofe could leave the club if an acceptable offer arrives before the window closes.

Danilo is the cream of the crop signing, and credit to Rangers and Beale for pushing to get this done.

In other Rangers news, the club are set for a seven-figre windfall after a Premier League bid went in.
