Ryan Jack blown away by ‘honest’ Sam Lammers in Rangers clash with Newcastle United

Ryan Jack was blown away by Sam Lammers after the new Rangers striker scored in the pre-season friendly clash with Newcastle United.

Summer signing Lammers scored his club’s only goal of the game as they lost 2-1 to Premier League club Newcastle at Ibrox on Tuesday (18 July).

Midfielder Jack was impressed by the clinical goal from the striker, who signed on a four-year deal from Atalanta in June.

“You saw Sam got his goal against Newcastle,” said Jack, as quoted by the Daily Record. “He worked his socks off for the team and is an honest player.

“We’ve got a couple of weeks until we have our Champions League games. Against Newcastle, it was a good test for us because they are going to be a Champions League side.”

Super start

The signature of Lammers was met with plenty of criticism given how he had netted just two goals from his 34 appearances in all competitions last season.

But the striker has silenced those critics in the best way possible by scoring so early into his Gers career.

Of course it was only a friendly encounter and won’t matter that much, but it will definitely do the attacker’s confidence the world of good, particularly given how it came against Premier League giants Newcastle.

The Magpies have only just qualified for the Champions League, and are seemingly on the way to fully establishing themselves one of the top clubs in English football.

Moreover, the goal came at Ibrox, and it came in front of a boisterous crowd of 50,000 people, the majority of which were Gers fans hoping to see their new signing find the back of the net.

Lammers did just that, with the home supporters and indeed the player himself desperate for that to be a regular occurrence in the upcoming season.

In other Rangers news, one pundit has hit out in the newspaper after a recent transfer at the Ibrox outfit.
