Scott Wright caught at airport ahead of Rangers exit, admits fee ‘agreed’ for another outbound transfer – Sky Sports

Scott Wright is on his way out of Rangers and looks set for a move to Turkey with Pendikspor as he admitted a fee has been agreed between the two sides when speaking at the airport on his way out.

The wide man is surplus to requirements under Michael Beale at Ibrox as the manager overhauls his squad ahead of the new season, having brought in three attackers in Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima, and another midfielder in Kieran Dowell.

Wright looks set to follow former Gers teammate Ryan Kent to Turkey, with the ex-Ibrox winger now a Fenerbahce player, and the current deal is thought to be worth £500,000 [Scottish Sun, 17 July].

Speaking to Sky Sports from the airport on Wednesday (19 July) the 25-year-old said he had spoken to Beale and the decision was made to allow him to seek more regular football.

He said: “Obviously the club’s agreed a fee and I’ll go out and have a look and see what I think.”

While the questioning suggested the deal was a foregone conclusion the former Aberdeen man replied multiple times to suggest it was a decision that he still needed to make, but he did appear clear that his time at Ibrox was over.

Wright admitted it was “tough” not to play much of late but said that he had “absolutely no regrets” about his spell with the Light Blues.

Time has come

Rangers need to generate some more cash to help the manager get his incoming transfer business finished this summer, and Wright’s opportunities don’t look like being any more extensive in the new season than they have been so far.

On his day he is a useful option but at this stage, after two and a half years at the club, it seems the right decision on both sides for him to move on.

Beale’s signings are currently at seven, and he will hope that the money that looks to be on the way in from Wright’s sale, on top of the £2.5m that Antonio Colak’s move to Parma netted [Scottish Sun, 15 July], will help him push towards doubled figures.

Rangers

Assuming the extensive activity this summer actually pays off on the pitch next term it is an impressive load of business in a window that was always slated to be busy.

Celtic’s treble meant big work was required on the squad and plenty has already followed, with the likes of Jose Cifuentes, Jonathan Panzo and Danilo eyed to possibly arrive still.

Glen Kamara is mooted to follow Wright and Colak out, while there have been suggestions that Fashion Sakala has interest, so the squad could have an even newer look by the time the new season starts.

In other Rangers news, a club partner has reacted to a mooted “jackpot win” transfer development that could now be on the cards.
