Alfredo Morelos reveals post-Rangers limbo as he shares transfer update

Alfredo Morelos has discussed his footballing future claiming that he wants to remain in Europe after his Rangers exit despite not being close to a move, according to Glasgow Live.

The 27-year-old striker was one of multiple outgoings at Ibrox this summer, including Ryan Kent and Scott Arfield, as Michale Beale continues his significant squad overhaul that has seen the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Jack Butland and Sam Lammers join the side.

The Colombian is now waiting for a new opportunity but, despite links to a host of clubs including Everton and Sevilla [Liverpool Echo], Rangers’ top European goalscorer is yet secure his footballing future.

Morelos said via Glasgow Live: “I have made it clear I want to stay in Europe and play football there. We are currently working towards making that happen.

“I still don’t have anything and there is nothing close, but hopefully something interesting will come up. I am calm and relaxed about the situation. I have been able to spend a lot of time with my family for a change.

“That has been nice. I want to play in a good European league which my family would enjoy. I am looking forward to the new season, just as I did every single season when I was at Rangers.

“At Rangers, I had great years there and I am proud of how it went for me when I was there. My favourite memory was winning the Scottish Premiership, but I was pleased with how I did in every season. Now it is just a case of waiting for a new opportunity elsewhere.”

Surprise

While Morelos did not have his best campaign at Ibrox last season, it is surprising that he is not close to a move to a top team.

For a free transfer, the Colombia international could prove a bargain and a shrewd piece of business for any European team needing a reliable goalscorer. Morelos has been particularly prolific in European competition, with his best return being 14 goals in 17 Europa League fixtures in 2019/20.

He has proven that he can score against all types of opposition, not just teams he faces in domestic competition, so a lack of suitors is a shock.

However, Michael Beale noted Morelos’ need for more energy last season as he lost his starting space up-top to the now departed Antonio Colak [BBC Sport], so perhaps clubs are questioning his work rate and current ability.

Morelos himself seems confident and patient that a move for him will eventually transpire, and his attributes will make him an attractive prospect for many clubs. Having been linked to Everton, Goodison Park could be a perfect destination if he can step up from Scottish football to the Premier League and replicate some of his goalscoring form for Sean Dyche.

With Everton financially restricted this window, a free transfer for a proven match-winner may be a perfect move for all parties and will keep Morelos in Europe as he desires.

It is now just a matter of time for Morelos, but his next chapter is likely to be just around the corner.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has slammed the Gers’ re-signing of Leon Balogun as a ‘desperate’ move, noting his lack of composure.
