Leeds United have no concrete transfer interest in Glen Kamara in Rangers twist

Despite plenty of speculation, Leeds United have no concrete interest in Rangers and Finland midfielder Glen Kamara, according to Jonny McFarlane.

Speaking on The Rangers Review’s Tuesday Morning Briefing, McFarlane refused to rule out that Daniel Farke’s side might not have considered the 27-year-old midfielder but doubts that any transfer is likely to happen.

Kamara is expected to leave Rangers having seen his involvement reduced in the Gers end of season run-in, only starting one of the final eight games of the Scottish Premiership season.

Responding to a question about the possibility of Kamara heading to Elland Road, McFarlane replied: “My understanding is there’s no concrete interest from Leeds at the moment.

“That’s not to say they’ve not looked at the player or that they don’t have any sights on the player at all. It’s just there’s nothing imminent on that front, nothing’s been agreed between the two clubs.

“Obviously, Rangers are open to selling and Kamara sees his future elsewhere. His two big pals Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo have got their moves and I don’t think he’s been the same since they left. It’s time for him to go and I’m sure when he does go Rangers will recoup a decent amount of money.”

Delaying the inevitable

Despite the fact that Leeds are yet to display and concrete interest in Kamara, his name is being linked with a number of clubs both in the United Kingdom and abroad, but his rather modest £5m transfer fee may dissuade some clubs from biting the bullet.

As mentioned by McFarlane, the 27-year-old hasn’t been quite at his best since the departures of teammates Bassey and Aribo and with only a year left on his deal, there may be a reluctance for clubs to pay a transfer fee when they know they could secure his services for nothing in 12 months.

But there’s no smoke without fire, with it being reported that there is an agreement in place between player and club for the Finnish midfielder to depart this summer for the right price, you’d imagine by September he will have departed Ibrox.

While undoubtedly a very talented player, Micheal Beale has managed to clear out a lot of his ‘fringe players’ so far this window and if Kamara does want to leave Rangers, any fee earned will be an excellent turnover for what was a £50,000 signing.

In other Rangers news, Beale is close to getting his man as the Gers continue talks for a Brazilian forward
