New Rangers signing now on the cards as Antonio Colak exits for £2.5m

Rangers look to add Feyenoord forward Danilo to their squad next season despite an initial offer being rejected last month by the Dutch champions, according to the Scottish Mail.

The outlet reported (16 July, page 99) that Rangers could still add the Brazillian to their ranks following the £2.5million exit of Croat Antonio Colak to Serie B side Parma [Rangers].

The Croat scored 18 goals for Michael Beale’s side last season but was deemed unneeded as the Gers pursue other attacking options ahead of the next campaign.

Beale has reportedly been very keen on bringing Danilo to the club with the club also stepping up their bid to secure his signature [The Sun].

The additional funds from the Colak sale would likely fuel this fresh bid to get their man after Arne Slot’s league winners rejected their initial £3.5million proposal [1908.nl].

However, Rangers may only have to pay an extra £2million for Danilo, so the Colak money will cover this perfectly.

While Colak himself turned out to be an important goalscorer after finishing joint top with James Tavernier, Beale looks to be changing the profile of his attack. Danilo himself is reportedly keen on a move to Ibrox [Daily Record], so this deal looks likely.

Beale’s desire for the 24-year-old is obvious but understandable. He can boast 0.61 non-penalty goals per 90 (91st percentile) and 7.14 touche in the attacking area per 90 (97th percentile) [FBRef], showing that he not only gets himself into dangerous positions but is also very effective at making the most from them.

While his 10 league goals don’t quite match Colak’s 14 league goals, Danilo is not coming in as his direct replacement and his younger age gives him more time to develop and grow.

Danilo seems like a very exciting signing for the Gers, and Colak’s exit may be the final key to unlocking the transfer.
