Rangers transfer news: Antonio Colak spotted in Parma for medical ahead of move after £2m bid accepted

Antonio Colak has been spotted in Parma ahead of his expected transfer from Rangers to the Serie B side this summer.

Football Scotland reported on Thursday night (13 July) that the Light Blues had accepted an offer for the striker of around £2million, with Parma Live following up Friday morning to report that his medical was due the same day.

That looks to have been backed up after the 29-year-old has now been photographed in Italy, as he closes in on a departure from Ibrox after one season.

Tuttosport and Parma Today journalist Guglielmo Trupo posted a photo of the Croatian on Twitter with the caption: “Parma, Čolak is in town: his adventure with the Parma shirt is about to begin.”

Odd man out

After a strong start to life as a Rangers player Colak’s fortunes dipped with the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and inopportune injuries robbing him of a proper chance to impress Michael Beale this year.

Despite a good scoring record in Glasgow – 18 goals in 39 total appearances – he isn’t deemed to fit the current manager’s plans so with three attacking signings made this summer and counting, he has become surplus to requirements.

There had been some suggestions that he might get a move to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen interested, but it looks like the Italian second tier is now his destination.

After Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima and Cyriel Dessers all came in the writing looked like it might be on the wall for Colak, through no real fault of his own.

With with Danilo also in Beale’s sights from Feyenoord it appears there was little space left for the veteran who arrived from PAOK last summer.

He surely gets the opportunity to play far more with this move than he was in line for with Rangers, and the manager gets a handy boost to his transfer budget this summer, so after a solid season’s work it should be a decent outcome for all.

In other Rangers news, another first-team ace is now expected to “finally leave” with two English clubs in the running to sign him.
