Robby McCrorie set to leave Rangers after last-ditch talks with Michael Beale
Rangers are set to lose Robby McCrorie after the goalkeeper held last-ditch talks over his future with manager Michael Beale, according to The Sun (13 July).
McCrorie stepped into the first-team at the end of the 2022/23 season as he staked his claim to replace Allan McGregor as the new number one at Ibrox for the upcoming season.
But after the club signed Jack Butland and Beale made it clear that he will start the season as the number one goalkeeper, McCrorie has made it clear he wants to leave for more regular first-team football which Beale has reluctantly agreed to allow him to do.

“Michael Beale has held last-ditch talks with Robby McCrorie over his Ibrox future,” they wrote.
“But SunSport can reveal the Rangers boss is now resigned to losing the 25-year-old this summer.
“Gers boss Beale rates the keeper highly and, while disappointed, he fully understands McCrorie’s desire to play regular first-team football.
“Rangers have now reluctantly accepted his wish to leave and become first-choice keeper elsewhere.”
Shame
It’s a tough one for Rangers, McCrorie and Beale but this seems like the most sensible option for everyone involved.
The 25-year-old showed that he is more than capable of stepping into the gloves of McGregor during the end of last season, but it would be a huge step up to be the undisputed number one with minimal first-team experience in his career.

Butland is an international goalkeeper who has always been highly rated, but he’s looking to get his career back on track after stagnating in recent years with Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
If you’re bringing in Butland to Ibrox then he has to be the number one realistically, and that means McCrorie will need to wait for an opportunity and he’s done that enough already in his career.
It makes sense for everyone for this transfer to happen, but it doesn’t mean Rangers can’t feel a little bit stung by it because he’s so good and it won’t have been in the boss’ ideal plans.
