Rangers transfer news as Ibrox wildcard move cannot be ruled out

A wildcard Rangers transfer cannot be ruled out as Michael Beale looks to complete moves for Feyenoord striker Danilo and LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, according to Daily Record.

The Gers have been rather impressive and efficient in their recruitment so far after announcing Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers as their sixth summer signing from Cremonese for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year deal at Ibrox.

Rangers are still thought to be working on deals to sign Los Angeles FC midfielder Cifuentes and Brazilian striker Danilo, but according to the Daily Record (13 July), the Gers are still hoping to recruit a centre-back too, while a potential wildcard signing cannot be ruled out.

“For starters, it would seem like three needing to go is an initial requirement, as rumours circle Kamara and Antonio Colak.

“Cifuentes and Danilo seem two that will come in if ducks can be arranged in a row and an extra defender, especially with King’s injury, seems on the agenda. And you can never rule out wildcard options in transfer windows”, the report writes.

Would be incredible

Rangers have indeed been rather impressive and efficient during the summer window, recruiting six players already with pre-season barely even started.

And there well could be more irons in the fire this summer as the Cifuentes and Danilo deals are still being worked on behind the scenes at Ibrox.

However, it appears the Gers are struggling to find suitors for their bit-part players such as Glen Kamara, Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo and those sales will need to be sorted out first before Rangers move on to completing those deals.

Danilo and Cifuentes represent incredible and exciting business should the Gers manage to get that done in the coming weeks, but there is still a clear need to recruit a centre-back, with the likes of Jonathan Panzo, Auston Trusty and Leeds’ Charlie Cresswell currently targetted.

A centre-back addition could well be the wildcard signing but in Beale’s eyes, it will be a priority given the injuries he suffered in the position last season. Who knows, the Light Blues could well recruit two more defenders.
