Jose Cifuentes blows journalist away with goalscoring display amid Rangers transfer speculation

Journalist Simon Evans was blown away by Rangers-linked midfielder Jose Cifuentes after the player scored for Los Angeles FC on Wednesday (12 July).

The Ecuador international netted his club’s third and final goal in their Major League Soccer (MLS) victory over St. Louis City.

As per Football Scotland (11 July), the Gers remain confident that they can convince LAFC to part with the midfielder this summer as opposed to letting him go for free in December.

As well as scoring in the 92nd minute of the match in Los Angeles, Cifuentes assisted Carlos Vela’s goal 20 minutes earlier.

The midfielder played the entire 90 minutes and impressed Evans, who wrote on Twitter. “Great assist and goal tonight from Glasgow Rangers transfer target Jose Cifuentes in LAFC’s 3-0 win over St. Louis City.”

Top talent

Along with his passing and tackling capabilities, Cifuentes has shown his goal-creating abilities this season, with the midfielder currently sitting joint-top of his club’s assists chart with three.

The Ecuador international is clearly a key player for the MLS side, which represents both a positive and a negative for Rangers.

LAFC certainly won’t want to lose one of their star men, but at the same time they definitely won’t want to lose him for nothing at the end of the year.

Now could be the right time to cash in on the player while the interest from the Gers is high, but it is very difficult for LAFC as they fight for glory in MLS.

The club currently sit second in the Western Conference, and will be reluctant to sell Cifuentes at this key stage of the season.

Rangers boss Michael Beale will hardly care, however, and will want to complete a deal for the 24-year-old as soon as possible.

In other Rangers news, a deal has been agreed in principle for one Gers-linked forward to move elsewhere for millions.
