Glen Kamara to ‘finally leave’ Rangers as Leeds United and Southampton eye transfer

Glen Kamara is set to “finally leave” Rangers this summer as transfer interest mounts in England, according to Dean Jones.

The midfielder has been eyed as a potential departure during the current transfer window, as one of the few current Ibrox players with decent transfer value, having become less involved in the Light Blues starting line up under Michael Beale.

The Gers boss signed Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell in January, and has already added Kieran Dowell this summer while extending Ryan Jack’s contract by a year, so Kamara looks to be on the brink of a long-mooted departure with Championship sides Leeds United and Southampton chief among the potential destinations.

Former Eurosport man Jones said, speaking to GIVEMESPORT: “Glen Kamara has been a topic of talk for some time, but it does look like he will finally leave.

“Leeds and Southampton are looking at him, and for clubs like that, in the Championship, he would probably be a great signing.

“He has offers from abroad too though, so it’ll be interesting to see what he decides to do.”

Parting of the ways

After almost 200 Rangers appearances it would be another significant figure from the recent history of the club gone if Kamara is to follow the likes of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Alfredo Morelos out this summer.

But with his significance under Beale reducing him to an option off the bench more frequently and the manager embarking on a rebuild the time appears to be right.

The Gers are expected to see some departures in the coming weeks after bringing in six new signings so far this summer, and with more expected.

And if the 27-year-old has various options to choose from he is surely minded to take one rather than be a rotational option in Glasgow.

If the Finnish international could bring in a few million towards Beale’s transfer budget while getting a fresh start in a new league it is likely a positive outcome all round.

He has been a valuable part of the Light Blues first team for four and a half seasons since his arrival from Dundee and was central to the 55th title win and the run to the Europa League final.

In other Rangers news, another striker is on the cards as Beale has turned his head with the opportunity at Ibrox ahead of a new bid.
