Rangers secure peace deal to avoid yet another costly legal battle

Rangers have thrashed out a peace deal with the Sydney Super Cup organisers TEG and spared themselves a £1.6million legal fight, according to the Daily Record.

The Ibrox chiefs were reportedly bracing themselves for another costly court battle after backing out of a planned Old Firm clash with Celtic Down Under last November.

The Gers have long been accused of bowing down to fan pressure after the club bowed out of the competition as a result of unrest and there was a chance that they could be punished with legal action.

And according to the Daily Record (11 July), the legal dispute will now no longer proceed after Ibrox chiefs struck a new lucrative agreement which will see the organisers TEG become the club’s new “international touring partner”.

The deal opens up possibilities for the Light Blues to take part in glamour international summer friendlies competitions over the next three seasons, with the firm previously working with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Inter Milan.

Phew.

Losing £1.6m on a needless court battle would have been incredibly costly for the Gers, especially considering their tight-knit budget.

£1.6m to Rangers is huge money and to lose that on such an issue will have been disastrous. Credit to the club chiefs for thrashing out a deal which will leave all parties happy in the end.

In all honesty, pre-season friendlies are supposed to be challenging and testing to ensure players are well prepared for the new season ahead and playing in needless games will not have helped preparations.

But this new deal with TEG will ensure Rangers remain competitive from pre-season right down into the campaign which means things have worked out brilliantly well for the Gers in the end.

Just imagine the ramifications and backlash at Ibrox, had they lost such a court battle. If the unrest at the Sydney Super Cup competition was bad, the protests after this court battle loss will have been disastrous for the whole club.

Rangers have certainly dodged a multi-million bullet.
